Terms of Service

Last updated 22 October 2026

These terms govern your use of Chela's website, application and Chela Card gift cards. Using Chela means you accept them.

The service

Chela provides a web-based point of sale, verification of supported payments, business records, analytics, team and branch management, and Chela Card gift cards. Chela is not a bank, a wallet or a payment processor: money moves directly between you, your customers and the payment providers you use.

Your account and your team

  • Give accurate information when you sign up, and keep it current.
  • An owner decides who is added to the business and with which role; permissions for those roles are enforced by the platform.
  • Keep your sign-in details private. You are responsible for activity carried out under your account, so tell us straight away if you think someone else has access.
  • We may suspend or close an account that is used for fraud, abuse, or to interfere with the service.

Plans, billing and limits

  • Chela is offered on Free, Business, Business Pro and Enterprise plans at the prices shown on the pricing page in Ethiopian Birr.
  • A paid plan is prepaid for the period you choose — one month, three, six or twelve months. Monthly quotas reset at the start of each month.
  • A plan starts only after its payment has been verified. Plan changes take effect the same way.
  • When a paid period ends without renewal, the business moves to the Free plan's limits. Your sales, records and team accounts remain intact.
  • Verification volumes, API limits and team or branch limits are per business, per month, as listed on the pricing page.

Refunds

  • If a subscription payment was made by mistake, or a plan was charged twice, email support@chela.et and we will refund it to the original payment method.
  • Unused time on a paid plan is not refunded automatically. If something went wrong on our side, tell us and we will put it right.
  • Gift cards are issued only after their payment verifies and are redeemed at the issuing business; they cannot be exchanged for cash except as change on a sale.

Gift cards (Chela Card)

  • A card is business-scoped: it can be redeemed only at the business that issued it, not across unrelated businesses.
  • A card is created only once its payment is verified; an abandoned or unpaid order never produces one.
  • Balances change only through recorded actions. Owners and managers can credit a card back, adjust its balance or freeze it, and each action is recorded with a reason.
  • A card may carry an expiry date, shown when it is issued and on the card itself.

Your data

Your business records belong to your business. You are responsible for the accuracy and lawfulness of what you record — products, prices, taxes and receipts — and you grant us only the access needed to run Chela for you. How we handle personal data is described in our Privacy Policy.

Acceptable use

  • Do not use Chela to record payments that did not happen, to submit false verification references, or to hide a sale from the records.
  • Do not attempt to bypass verification, probe another business's data, or interfere with the service or with other users.
  • Do not use Chela for anything unlawful.

Availability and changes

We work to keep Chela available and to verify payments promptly, but maintenance and outages at payment providers or hosting can interrupt the service. Features may be added, changed or retired; when these terms change materially we publish the new version on this page and update the date above.

Liability

Chela is provided as it is, and to the extent the law allows we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost profit, arising from use of the service. Verification reduces the risk of taking a payment that never arrived; it does not remove it, and it does not replace your own checks or your bank's records. Nothing in these terms limits a liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
